The old saying goes that all good things must come to an end. While the reality of the statement can hurt, one should spend their final moments relishing the memories of those good things verses being saddened by its ending. Thankfully on July 28, 2018, many people relished the good times & made the final appearance of the Vans Warped Tour on Long Island one last awesome memory to cherish.
I was lucky enough to be invited out to do press coverage on this final Warped Tour. While I have heard about the tour since I was a young, this was my first time attending the event. I was told to be prepared for the frenzy of action that would occur from stage to stage & everything in between.
I arrived shortly after 12 and headed straight to the inflatable wall to see set times. My agenda for the day was to see as much as I possibly could and let the chips fall where they may. When I browsed the wall, the first thing I noticed was King Neptune was playing which was awesome as I really enjoyed their set at the recent Great South Bay Music Festival.
So my first official set of the day had me going to the Full Sail Stage to see King Neptune. They once again put on a fantastic set of songs that are highly enjoyable & relatable. I definitely recommend checking them out.
I stuck around the Full Sail Stage for the Pomona, California based trio Farewell Winters who put on an in your face high intensity set that showcased the vintage enthusiasm & passion that made Warped Tour such a huge success.
However my entire day was not just at the Full Sail Stage as I made my way over to the Journey’s Left Foot & Right Foot stages to see awesome sets by Falling In Reverse, Four Year Strong, Mayday Parade & headliner Simple Plan.
The Mutant Red Dawn & White Lightning stages also showcased some sick performances that had the crowds going crazy for sets by Chelsea Grin, Motionless In White, Senses Fail & Sharptooth.
As with any festival, one stage usually stands out for me personally as my most enjoyable experience. On this day, I definitely give that award to the Full Sail stage as I made my way back there again for killer sets from Brooklyn-based bands Nihiloceros & Qwam, two bands I definitely plan on checking out again since they are local.
It was fitting that the final performance ever at the Warped Tour on Long Island was reserved for Simple Plan. The huge crowd there to see them was running on fumes but once the band hit the stage, the collective roar & feel of one last second wind took over for a brief but intense & emotional set by the band that included all the big hits.
While I can’t say I have years worth of memories from attending the Warped Tour, my one & only experience attending the event was enough for me to understand why the tour meant so much to so many people.
