Shadow Monster 01-01-19 (Live @ Arlene’s Grocery)
Last week, I talked about how I could not think of a better way to end the year, than having the last show I cover be one featuring Shadow Monster. So what could top that you ask, well how about starting a brand new year seeing Shadow Monster!
Such was the case when I made my way to Arlene’s Grocery on New Year’s Day to catch Shadow Monster solo aka an amazing set by the fearless Gillian Leigh Visco who wowed the crowd with a highly emotional seven song set which included a great new song as well as a beautifully raw & fragile cover.
The set started with a fantastic rendition of Poison followed by the always strong Along The Way. Next up we all had the pleasure to hear the 3rd version of Eyes In My Sleep (Cautious Eye). As much as I liked the original & loved the uptempo second version, this latest version took the song to a darker & haunting place which really gave me chills.
You Already Have My Heart was the brand new song that is still a work in progress but clearly has potential to be a real standout when all is said & done. I really enjoyed the emotional cover of You Belong To Me which featured such a perfect childlike innocence to it that made it stand out.
My favorite song of 2018 (probably 2019 as well), Punching Bag ended the set on a perfect note. I really felt the raw passion of it even more on this night. I can never hear this song enough!
2019 will be the year of Shadow Monster, so come along for the ride!
