Shadow Monster 10-09-18 (Live @ Freddy’s Bar & Backroom)
Recently I had the pleasure of once again making my way to Freddy’s Bar & Backroom in Park Slope to catch an intimate solo set by Shadow Monster’s Gillian Leigh Visco.
The whole vibe of the room was great from the beginning especially with the projection screen behind her showing Halloween movies while she played a beautiful 7 song set featuring newer material.
A new song titled Poison kicked things off & served as a great opener. This was followed by Eyes In My Sleep which I definitely can see becoming a favorite of mine.
Punching Bag was amazing as always. I will NEVER get sick of hearing this song performed as it truly is an all time favorite of mine. I thought she did a fantastic job echoing the raw emotion while doing a cover of Elliott Smith’s Between The Bars. I really enjoyed the finale Loser as well which definitely can strike a relatable cord on many levels.
While I love seeing Shadow Monster in its full form, I get the same enjoyment when it is the solo version as the raw emotion & talent is still there on full display.
