Orange County electronic artist DEVAULT and Los Angeles native and Skrillex-supporting innovator Team EZY (AKA Drew Gold) have joined forces on the collaborative electronic track My Own, which also features the airily downcast vocals of Sansa.
DEVAULT aims to push the boundaries of electronic music, incorporating more emotion and energy into his endeavors than what is expected of the EDM genre. DEVAULT’s recent singles, Nothing New and All Need, have been streamed over 1 million times on Spotify.
Team EZY is the moniker of what started out as a high school project, but has since blossomed into a skyrocketing career for Gold who has taken on various roles within Skrillex’s organization.
Team EZY’s debut was the Pretty Bye Bye collaboration with Skrillex and now DEVAULT and Team EZY revisit the darker feelings found on that track and offer up the hybrid number My Own.
Sansa’s deeply plush and melancholic vocals float over the nocturnal, but still illuminated atmosphere of subdued and extended synth lines, crisply clicking percussion, and an echoing, clacked beat. Her emotionally aching vocals unfurl with a tender sadness, like the faded glow of cherished memories that are no longer.
Sharp EDM electronics build up from the burnt embers, reflecting the theme of nostalgia over a broken-up relationship. Sansa’s words become muffled and warped amid shadowy backing male vocals, quickly pressing loops of sitar-like strings, and a fast-fluttering beat. Against the brighter, driven electronics Sansa emotes longingly with a velvety sigh about being, “…on my own.”
